This will have a bearing on the number of images that can be stored on a card of a given size as I'm sure you'll know. | That's a point. I like to use the highest possible quality, hence shooting RAW, although it's not a big deal to flip the settings between RAW and good quality JPEG. Quote: |
A friend of mine went on a lifetime trip to Africa and took his laptop and all the supporting gear. I would have been in fear of theft, temperature, dust, vibration and all the other worrying factors. I prefer to carry a hand full of postage stamp sized cards in a safe place and be happy with that. Each days shots can be reviewed on the camera and the really duff stuff can be deleted.
| That's partly what concerns me about taking a laptop, I can't lug it around all day and would be loath to leave it in a tent or hostel (I am back packing, being on a fairly tight budget)in case a toerag makes free with it. I'll get some more CF cards and take my 40GB Jobo storage device. I can always buy another storage device in Singapore or Australia if need be. Quote: |
The laptop I'm typing this on came from Aldi and so did the Gold label tea I've just drunk - I'm an Aldi convert!
| I wish we had an Aldi on the Isle of Wight but unfortunately our nearest stores are in Southampton and Portsmouth - hardly handy to get to.

| | | Re: Storage media Thanks for all responses. I am in Oz now and have decided to bring extra cards and a couple of sticks. I can always buy extra cards here if I need them. Not too expensive.
But I will buy additonal hard drive - probably portable when I return.
Thanks again,

| | | Re: Storage media What, you have 2 dSLR bodies and only 1 card? I have a compact digital and have 3 cards and still think I need more. Shooting in RAW, I only get about 100 images per card, so if I were doing the trip you are doing, I would take at least a dozen cards with me - they take up no room. |

I have seven of the things, ranging from 2GB to 8GB, and am planning to buy a few more 8 GB ones.
