If you look round the net, there were rumours that Canon were going to increase their prices by 10% at the beginning of this month. This is on top of the increases they introduced in Dec/Jan, as far as I can ascertain.

I'm sure the 400mm f/5.6 was around £850 from that well know warehouse that is very quick, they are now quoting £1029. That's some hike.

Prices are very volitile at the moment; you must shop around. Some companies are still offering old stock at the previous price but new stock is increasing by anything upto 30%.

I've just bought a new Sigma zoom at a reasonable price but when I compared macro lenses from the same company, they were the dearest. And the best price company for Sigma macros were high on Sigma zooms.

It does seem strange that when money is tight companies increase prices but I suspose it is the falling pound.

There are bargains about with some things, eg I just purchased a new Renault Clio van delivered for £6500 including vat and 6 months tax.

Yes, most of the reputable sources have raised their prices roughly the same amount. Where I got my 300mm F4 from, the price of that has gone from £779 to £995.
I did find one site which is hard to believe they're genuine. Fancy a 580 EX II flash for 169 euros? Postage free as well!
How about my 300mm lens for 569 euros? Unfortunately they don't list the 400mm F5.6, I'm sure if they did it would be around £600!
Further investigation shows the goods are in Russia. Dare I risk a go? Not likely!

Bit of a dizzy moment I had there Ben. I thought you said it had increased in price by £1000! But I still wrote £100 by accident LOL.

Silly me.

I'm sure that there are retailers that won't change the price for a while. Or we'll just have to live off of second hand kit!

Just looked up the price for the canon 70-300mm IS lens out of interest. W express are selling for £429, that's way over what I paid for it 2 years ago Our friend up north however, is selling same lens for £349, what a rip off eh ? He's making a profit and w exp, amongst others are making £80 more
