Canon 70-300 is / Sigma 100-300 f4

Got myself a Sigma 300 f2.8 and tc for wildlife/birds , can see me using this mainly on a tripod ( its currently setup on pod awaiting a Sparrowhawk"s return to my garden )
I have saved a bit of cash ( £400 ) and am considering the purchase of a lens that I can walk about with and use for the landscape/wildlife shot that presents itself .
Something a bit lighter than the Sigma 300 that I can hand hold , the 2 lens I have listed have good reviews and the Canon is almost half the weight of the Sigma 100-300 .
Would prob be looking at s/h models , am I on the right track with the 2 listed and any prefs from anyone please ?

Yep I have the canon 70-300mm IS. My walkabout and rarely off the camera lens and one I will never ever regret buying and not part with until I have a large amount of cash to prime up. At least you can carry this one all day though, hand held most of the time. Have a look at my website if you want to see some shots with it . Thanks for the replies , tempted to go for the Canon , s/h one seem to be around £300 , but did bid on a Sigma 100-300 f4 on ebay last nite ( didn"t get it ) and that went for £383 .
Its either I think , think the lighter Canon with is might just swing it but you never know.

Picked up a new Canon 70-300 IS for £300 , ( someone selling a new unused lens that came as kit lens to a 50D ).
Nearly bought a s/h one for the same price but glad I waited a while.
