Well I have had a look and the 300mm F/2.8 Sigma seems to sell for £1000 s/hand, which may be an option for me...
I have ahd severe problems recently trying to get above 1/250th at ISO1600!!!
and that is at F/4!!
I am now tempted by testing/borrowing some lenses, as some hire companies will let you borrow for just a weekend which is not too painful.
I have decided to put off any purchase until June/July when I should have more than sufficient funds.
as for the 1.4tc, if I lose a stop, that is 1/125th, which is pretty bad considering how fast brid move their heads!!
Maybe I will wait until a very sunny day until I try again!!
Thanks

if it's that bad at iso 1600 ( I rarely go above 400 with my sigma 500) then it may be wise to wait for some sun. I always remember the words of a US wildlife photographer ,who's name escapes me, who said;
"A photograph of a Grizzly Bear in dull light will ALWAYS be a dull photograph of a Grizzly Bear ! "

I decided that the 100-400L was too much, and I wanted a zoom...
So I went to Derby Uni on Friday, and after looking around, I went into LCE
and they had the Sigma 150-500 OS, and my dad just ordered it over the phone!!
It was the last copy available in basically anywhere without the newest price hike!!!
£670 instead of the newer £730!! saved £60 and now I am waiting for a parcel!!
now need to think about my current lens!!
thanks for all the advice
will
