i had a great surprise today, as well as a UV filter for my new camera, my dad got down all his old pentax FSLR equipment, and as one of his lenses has the same thread size as my camera, he has leant me some of his filters and a macro +1 lens

yes! its all good stuff as well! it took my dad quite a few years to build up this collection.

Nice going squishy. (Maybe if you're lucky, your dad will let you keep them).

Are they "creative" filters like starbursts and graduated colours etc. or are they like polarising and haze filters?

If you've got a polarising filter you can get some great blue sky & water effects. (plus you can use them to remove reflections on glass windows etc).

The one thing with filters though, is to use them selectively, so that their use doesn't start to become too obvious in your collection of pics.

Post some pics when you've had chance to give them a try, so that we can see what sort of shots you're going for.

the set () includes three different shades of graduated colours (blue/grey, grey and browny) and a polarised filter, which is just perfect for me!

i'm going to the lakedistrict on the 19th, so that'll give me some good opportunities to take some dramatic landscape photos
