| | | Bias towards canon (and Nikon) After reading quite a few magazines (and some online) photograph reviews of cameras, I did feel that the non canon/nikon camera were ignored a bit. Ive come across some suggestions that the magazines have most the advertising space taken up by the big two and have a steady supply of new lenses and cameras to review, so dont want to bite the hand that feeds them. This dismissed this as nonsense but since seeing this review Im not so certain there a million miles from the truth!
How exactly did the reviewer manage this conclusion!? |

As a Canon user, I will say that they and Nikon do rule the photographic roost, but I do agree that the others are overshadowed by these Big Two. |

It would be far easier if everyone just came to terms with the fact that Canon win hands down.

very good
it's been like this for the last 20 odd years really and when you think about it there wasn't much standing in their way
we had minolta with ther dynax range in the early days of autofocus slr's which in my opinion were excellent but apart from that i can't think of any other autofocus slr's that came close
now were in the digital world we have a few contenders but if we look at them closely how much competition are they really ??
fuji pro series were based on nikon ( dunno if they still are )
minolta now sony alpha are probably the closest competition but still have a long way to go to persuade the public their cameras are just as good
sigma are using a relativly new senser ( rgb sensor ) that isn't established yet
pentax are making a comeback after standing still for a few years
the samsung slr's are in reality re badged pentax
and last but not least the pro's use canon or nikon which in the advertising market speaks volumes
this is my view on the situation but i do aggree that advertising revenue must play a part in the reviews although they swear blind it doesn't |

You don't fancy buying a large bagful of Canon A1's, motor drives, umpteen FD lenses etc. etc. do you? (Well they do make good paperweights)
It almost brings a tear to my eye when I think what I paid for the 85mm f1.2 alone.
I think I'll keep them though - you never know, the world might run out of silicon sensor chips and we'll all have to go back to film.

Mike. | Well if you ever want to 'offload' any FD lenses for a sum of 'dollar', just give me a PM- I still create Wildlife images quite often with my original Canon A1- It's a beautiful camera I mainly use the FD 200mm f.4- it's a tack sharp piece of glass. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
