Do you know which high street retailers deal with these Sanyo's ?

I'm definitely tempted to get some. (currently using Ansmann 2700mAh Nimh's which do tend to self discharge over a few weeks).

i use a set of uniross 2700 Mah, and they've always works fine. i've got another set on order to.

I can't remember where I got my Eneloops from, but I've recently bought the Panasonic equivalents from 7dayshop:

I've also seen the Panasonics in a supermarket - Tescos or Waitrose I think.

The Eneloops/Infiniums really come into their own with flashes, which are usually idle for long periods between use. I also use them in my Garmin Geko GPS, with confidence that they won't be flat when I come to use it.

It annoys me that they put the instruction manual on disc, have spent an hour printing it off and sorting out the pages!

i'm loving this camera haven't had many opportunities to test the macro yet though... i will put it properly through its paces come spring

I have this camera, like you the DSLR is not for me just yet lol. It's a great camera. I have taken some great photos with it and believe me I'm fairly useless with cameras.
