I forgot to welcome you to WAB. I hope you enjoy the site. There's plenty to look at and some fabulous photos in the Gallery.
When you say save your money do you mean save to buy it or to save by not buying it?

John | Hi John. Thanks for the welcome.I think I will save by not buying it.I will carry on using my 100-400mm lens and let my feet do the walking.I have just sent for some tubes to use with my sigma 105mm so maybe that will get me a bit closer

If you feel you can get the results using your current equipment, plus those tubes, then go for it but I have to confess I have the same lens and 1.4 converter as Dai has and am very happy with it. It is very versatile plus it has IS on it which is a big advantage for me.

John | Hi John
You are one of the first who has said they are pleased with this combination.
Do you tape the contacts on the converter.
Have you got any shots I can look at to see what sort of result I could expect,I would love to see them. Its good to have such positive feedback on this

First of all the 100-400 will not compete with the prime lens but within the category of expense I would highly recommend it, and yes I do tape the pins.
Regarding any photos. I have thousands. Take your pick. I have loads of them on my web site and quite a few in my own Gallery on WAB. The link to my web site is below where it says "visit my web site".
Virtually every single photo that is in the DSLR section has been taken with this combination. Usually when I take the converter off it is because the subject is too close.
