| | | Re: Canon 50D on its way yeah, it's a funny upgrade that... It's supposedly a 'sister' camera rather than an upgrade, which initially put me in mind of the 1d \ 1ds ranges they do at the mo - similar cameras for different markets. But this looks like a bit of a rushed update. There's not a lot in there that I would jump at, unless the DIGIC 4 processor is amazing, but it would have to be pretty special to warrant an uppgrade on a 40d.
Still, we'll see. And I think the resolution issue depends on the photo library - I submit a lot of images from my 400d and 40d and they are accepted no problem.

| | | Re: Canon 50D on its way It doesn't need to be a 1D. The following is part of Getty Images' requirements:
"If you are shooting on a 35mm digital camera it must an approved camera from this list: Canon EOS: 1D(Mk1,2&3), 1DS(Mk1,2,2n&3) 5D, 30D and 40D; Nikon: D2X, D2Xs, D3, D200, D300 and the Leica M8. All medium format backs (e.g. backs by Phase One and Leaf etc) produce sufficiently high quality images to be accepted by us."
See: gettyimages.com/contributors -
I understand that the above list is not exhaustive, and that images from other DSLRs not listed are accepted.

| | | Re: Canon 50D on its way As I'm never likely to be submitting my shots anywhere, the file size means nothing to me.
It will be interesting to see some real reviews to see how well they've controlled image noise with such a high density sensor. 15mpixels doesn't do much for me, I'm quite happy with the 8mpixels I get from the 20D, BUT if the higher ISO settings on this camera, up to 3200 in normal use plus up to 12800 with the expansion settings is really as good as it sounds, now that would be very interesting. Apart from that the main difference I can see from the 40D is the higher quality LCD monitor which is a nice feature but hardly worth scrapping the 40D for! (Even though I've damaged my 40D LCD monitor. ) |

Needless to say I won't be ordering one

| | | Re: Canon 50D on its way I think Canon will have to do something with regards to noise as Nikon are running away with it as present, I dread to think (Although i have no interest in Canon per say) how many pros have moved from the 1D range to the D3 but I've heard a few just down to the way it handles noise at higher ISO.
I''l be interested to see how the 50D handles in low light and high ISO. I'm interested in a Camera that CAN shoot 15.0 million effective pixels but after the purchase of the 40D it will have to wait.
My main priorities were larger pixel ratio (bigger than my current 20D) faster fps and the live image preview, and wifi transfer this based on the work I have to do with it all of which are covered with a 40D
Be interesting to see if there is another incarnation of the 5D after this as the 50D seems to beat it on all fronts And depending on where you look cheaper as well | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
