| | | Kenko teleconverter with Nikon and Tamron I have a Nikon d80 and two lenses – Nikon 18-135 and Tamron 70-300. In a month's time I am going on an overland safari for two weeks in Kenya and Tanzania and really want a bit more zoom. Has anyone with a Nikon camera or a Tamron 70-300 lense had any experience with a Kenko Pro 300 1.4x teleconverter as this is an option for someone a on a bit of a budget? |

| | | Re: Kenko teleconverter with Nikon and Tamron Hi leejohn and welcome to WAB!
I bought the Kenko Pro 300 1.4x teleconverter about 3 weeks ago to use with my Nikon D300. Then I sat indoors watching the rain come tumbling down! My first real chance to use it was last Sunday and I coupled it with a Nikon 80-400 zoom. The results were a bit hit and miss but there were some very good images so I suspect the misses were more down to me getting used to it than the kit. I'm still at work at the moment but will try and post a few samples - good and bad - later this evening.

| | | Re: Kenko teleconverter with Nikon and Tamron I am thinking of buying a teleconverter to add to my Tamron 70-300 lens with a Nikon D80 did your work or would it be better to buy the new 28-280 Tamron lens. I am not sure of the magnification of this lens. I am off to Botswana and need a good lens etc for wildlife.
Please pass on your experiences with the Kenko unit. |

| | | Re: Kenko teleconverter with Nikon and Tamron You may find that due to the fact that the teleconverter also causes a loss of one f stop of aperture that the loss of light may cause difficulty with autofocus. This is a general point - I don't know if it applies to this camera/lens combination or not (but I suspect it will).
