| | | 60mm macro lens Not ever done any macro work before, and buying a 60mm macrco lens without knowing why  I crept up on a fly and took a free hand shot.
May be their is a use for this impulse buy. To get the best, I perhaps will have to use a tripod.

| | | Re: 60mm macro lens the Canon 60mm macro is a lovely sharp lens, its only major downside is the lack of working distance that it offers. This is obviously particularly problematic for the more skittish insects such as butterflies and dragons. That said, I regularly shoot insects from within a few inches of them so you won't be too short of subjects to photograph.
Ideally you would use a tripod, although they can be cumbersome for macro. An alternative is to light your images entirely by diffused flash which freezes motion blur.
