| | | Long lens carry handle Having met someone who had made a carry handle for his long lens, I thought I would have a go at making my own:
Frankly, it's not very pretty and could do with improvement, but I'm no engineer, but I know a man who is. I've approached SRB Griturn to see if they would be interested in making a better job of it. They would like to know whether there would be much demand for such an item, so I thought this would be the ideal place to find out.
Your comments would be most welcome. |

| | | Re: Long lens carry handle Richard I have learnt from experience never, never, ever to carry a camera and long lens without a strap around my neck. I find the tripod mount adequate as it is though I would imagine the ribber grip may may it a little more comfortable.

| | | Re: Long lens carry handle To be honest, I don't see the need for one.
My long lens comes out of my bag and straight on to the tripod. Tripod on shoulder and away I go. |

| | | Re: Long lens carry handle You guys are obviously never ready for that unexpected shot, as I carry my camera round with me when I'm looking for wildlife, not in a case. As for a strap - the invention of the devil. I would NEVER carry a camera with heavy lens via a strap on the camera body.
Looks like I've asked the wrong people after all. I'll have to go somewhere else where they know what they're talking about! |

Maybe you should have done a search first, as you would find that you can already buy a similiar device that appears much better made.

Personally, I also have no need for such a handle. I always have my camera/lens around my neck on a strap and I then support it with my hands. Also, since I often carry a tripod or monpod I always have a quick release plate attached to my tripod collar so wouldn't want to have to unscrew a handle before I could attach a tripod. For users of very long lenses (e.g. 500 f4 etc) where a neck strap is less practical, then a tripod would be used in the majority of cases and the camera/lens is normally carried over the shoulder whilst still on the tripod. Again, a quick release plate would be on the tripod foot and I can't imagine a handle such as this being convenient or practical.
If that's the way you carry your camera and lens, fine. Just because others do it differently doesn't mean we don't know what we're talking about.

With my lens the tripod support already offers exactly this type of handle build in, which also has the neck strap directly connected to it. |

Hence no need for a carrying handle. |

Take a look at where the stap is attached on some long lens, before you disparage people. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
