| | | Canon second camera body which ?? Not now but in the future I would like a second body to go with my current lens collection. I like the thought of a spare, plus who knows the wife might give it a go The thing is I can never see me being able to afford a great fortune, may be I could stretch to a 40D some time in the future. MY present is a 400D. Would it be worth the extra in cost between these camera's, would I or my photograpy benifit
Regards
Colin

| | | Re: Canon second camera body which ?? Hi Colin,
I've always had a second body , you never know ,if one packs up when your away you've got the spare to keep shooting.
I had two 20d's and I've just got a 40d (lovely camera ) and I'm going to sell one of the 20d's.
If you don't want to spend a lot on a second body have a look for a good condition used 350d, there's plenty knocking about as people are always trading up.

| | | Re: Canon second camera body which ?? Hello Colin I was in the same quarry as you I could not decide between the 400D and the 40D as there is not much between them except for size and a few other tweeks thgerfore I went for the cheaper and got the 400D and its great so I would go for the 400D and save yourself a few pounds as well,Also with the 40D you have a 100,000 shutter activations then it needs to go for service and be reset at least thats what I was informed by a person on thew canon customer support team.
Best of luck on what you decide if you go for the 400D you can use the extra saved to get a better lens.
Cheers ...Bill

| | | Re: Canon second camera body which ?? As a spare body Colin I would not want to spend much, sooner spend it on lenses. I have a 350D body that I keep as a spare just in case the 400D packs up.
As far as benefiting your photography, I don't think so, it's always been my opinion rightly or wrongly that it's the lens that is the crucial element coupled with the photographers ability to use the equipment.

| | | Re: Canon second camera body which ?? I have an EOS 20D as my main camera body and an EOS 400D as my back-up, although I do tend to use both now.
The 20D is fitted with my Bigma & the 400D is fitted with my Sigma 150mm macro.
My advice would be to have a look at what deals you can get on a 30D, its a fine camera and prices on them are very good since the 40D came out. I would say look at a 20D but the chances of finding a new one of those now would be small! |

| | | Re: Canon second camera body which ?? I just took delivery of my new 40D today having convinced myself that it would provide a spare body in my 30D. Took a few quick snaps this morning and stuck them on the computer and must say the detail is very impressive and puts the 30D in the shadows. To say the AF is fast would be an understatement.
You will be able to pick up a 30D for a good price shortly, however, unless you are desperate for a 2nd body I would put the cash to one side and save for the 40D.

ball park would appear to be circa 400 notes for a mint condition 30D , 300 for a 20D and 200 for a 10D or a 350D tho obviously these vary depending on condtion , age, etc.

They all seem to come with a 1year guarantee from Canon.
Obviously worth considering!
