| | | Has anyone got a Canon 1D Mark 3? I'm considering treating myself by getting the Canon 1D Mark 3. Anybody use this camera and what do you think? |

I know Juza rates it but in terms for value for money he stays with the canon 20D and prefers to splash out on high quality lenses.
I am not really sure what it does of consequence that the new 40D doesn't. It has bigger files and bigger buffer, probably a bit quicker AF and more weather proof but I haven't really found the 20D wanting for much I must say.
Perhaps someone can convince me it is worth three or four times the price of a 40D?

Jon | Isn't the decision really full sized sensor vs cropped sensor, and
what that will do your quiver of lenses??
I know I like the extra reach that I get with my 30D |

I know I like the extra reach that I get with my 30D | I may be getting mixed up with the new EOS 1 series but one of them is not full frame, (I know two of them are full frame), the non full frame as I understand it is ideally suited to sport phtographers, and I suspect (?) therefore perhaps equally to nature photographers. This is the one I referred to.

Jon | The 1d mark 3 is not full frame but has a 1.3 crop factor. The 1d S mark 3 is full frame.
I wish they would change the names of these 1 series cameras, it's ridiculous how easy it is to get them all confused.

Matt | Not much of a difference is there between a 1d mark3 and a 1ds mark3. Only a little matter of a 1.3 crop factor and none at all.
It's too confusing for me! |

I was reading a review of something Canon - I cannot remember what - and at the bottom of the page was a list of other reviews, one of which was on the 5D. Having one of these cameras, I read it to see what other people thought of it. Forgetting about the review part, the interesting thing, to me, was the fact that the reviewer stated that 'it is the intention of Canon to eventually make all but the cheapest cameras full frame'. Whether or not this is purely speculation, I do not know. By cheapest of the Canon range, he could mean the 400D or nonDSLR models. This was not made clear. However, I would think twice before buying an EF-S lens!
I think that the main difference between the 1D mk lll and the 1Ds mk lll is a matter of pixels. 21 Mp for the 1Ds mk lll is a lot of pixels. If you can manage with a mere 16.7 Mp, perhaps the price of the 1Ds mk ll will come down with the introduction of the later model. That camera certainly has a good reputation. |
