| | | Nikon repair "quote" The top LCD on my Nikon D70S is cracked,no idea how or when,
where can I get a rough estimate without packing it up and sending it away
I understand that repairers are unwilling to commit in case there are other problems
I just want an idea

| | | Re: Nikon repair "quote" I could not get a quote without sending it off,so I asked my insurance company
if they could recommend anyone
They said have some money instead so I did and now have a Nikon D80 body
which was cheaper than replacing the D70S for them

| | | Re: Nikon repair "quote" hmmmm, I was having Error 99 messages and shutter problems with my Canon 400D so I sent it of to Canon (missing it already!), I wonder whether I should've tried my insurance company?
Ah well, as long as it gets fixed I will be happy,

Guy | common causes of err 99 (tho there are more than a few) are batteries - battery grips , dirty lens contacts, and pointing IS lenses directly at bright light. So dont be supprised if the problem persists.
I have pro level insurance which on average is about a fiver a month more than amateur level - but if the gear goes away it pays for me to hire a camera for the duration ensuring i am never without one. Its deffo worth looking at if you use your camera a lot even if you are not actually a pro

Hopefull Canon will be able to do something about it.
That insurance sounds great, I would probably have been getting quite a bit of use out of it in the time it's been away, and I'm getting worried that I may not get in back in time for my trip to Scotland. I will look into that type of insurance.
Thanks,

Guy | if it persists when you get the camera back try cleaning the 105s lens contacts with a pencil eraser - dont use too much pressure - about the same as you would rubbing out a word written in pencil - and if you arent sure err on the side of caution.
it is also well worth looking at getting a second body especially if you might not get your 400 back in time for scotland - I'd give the 300D a swerve but there are s/h 10Ds, 20Ds, and 350Ds available for a couple of hundred notes from dealers (look in the backof amateur photographer magazine) or on ebay

| | | Re: Nikon repair "quote" I thought you said your insurance company had written it off surely it isnt ethical to take the insurance the repair it anyway
however if you want a better idea of what it would cost you could try the nikonians forum - or just ask a few dealers for quotes
