| | | Warning of Fault with Nikon lens Just a quick note to warn other members about a serious defect I have discovered with my Nikon 18 - 70 mm lens. When dropped onto a hard surface I have found that the lens splits into two halves making it un-usable. The fault is so severe that a repair with gaffer tape failed to remedy the problem. I was very unhappy to discover this and thought it best to warn other members. On the plus side for the first time in my life I have seen the inside of a lens and a most educational experiance.

or water(technically a soft but non-supportive surface)

| | | Re: Warning of Fault with Nikon lens Sorry to hear about this Roger, but at least you've learnt a couple of valuable lessons, firstly how a lens is constructed and secondly how not to change a lens. Mind you, I've done exactly the same, pure luck it hasn't happended to me. |

| | | Re: Warning of Fault with Nikon lens well yes kiff, but most well built lenses will not split completely into 2! most would just get abit damaged, but nothing beyond a repair job (like i'm sure that is!) |

| | | Re: Warning of Fault with Nikon lens Can any one recommend a camera suitable for butterfingers?
..or perhaps a pillow attatched (using gaffer tape, perhaps) to one shoe, allowing the user to break the fall of the camera (or a whole variety of other breakable objects). |
