| | Canon G7 Hi I'm thinkig about puchasing a canon G7 and was wondering if anybody has got any feed back on this camera. I have a DSLR for wildlife photography with all the usual lenses for distance and macro etc, but I want a good all-round fixed lense camera that I can just grab and put in my sack whithout taking too much room up. I have checked all the usual consumer sites but I would like to hear from the real guys/girls on the ground and poss get the bad feed back if any, with the good. |

| | | Re: Canon G7 the g series are good cameras - Ive got a G4 which i use for macro photos when i cant be bothered to carry the big rig - the only drawback is that i have my doubts about the robustness of the swiveling screen - mine was s/h off ebay so its no biggie but i would be more cautious about it if splashing the cash on a new one
other models you could look at include the fuji F11 and the Panasonic FZ8 and TZ3

| | | Re: Canon G7 i have a G7 and its great, its no digital slr but it really does give you alot more control than a standard point and shoot, i bought it for the same reasons as you, something to carry round with me at all times that isnt too bulky or too hard to use. Ive found it a really usefull camera, especially when i go to concerts etc, because of the level of control you have selecting the aperture and shutter speed etc and the movie mode produces really good quality videos too. Over all a great camera and very very usefull as an alternative to a digital SLR |

| | | Re: Canon G7 Hi
I am in the same boat as you I keep looking at the G7 for more or less the same reasons ,
I also like it because it has a viewfinder which a must for me and not many compacts have this facility now days the one drawback is no RAW format which is something I really would like it to have .
I already Owen a Canon 350d and I am saving up for a Sigma 50-500 when I have this hopefully they will have brought out a G8 with RAW I am keeping my fingers crossed !
I have used the G7 for a few days " borrowed from a friend " and can not recommend it enough
loverly little camera and very flexible with it but it ain't got RAW DO YOU HEAR ME CANON

| | Re: Canon G7 Hi guys, thanks very much for the input, it's really good to get other peoples perspectives. I shall definately check out the Fuji and the Panasonic as well. I never really thought about the RAW file either, not that it presents much of an obstacle really to me. Once again many thanks for your help/advice. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
