| | | Straighten or not? I am no expert when it comes to photography but I would like your opinion on whether or not I should rotate this image to make the deer more horizontal. They were on a slight incline.
It's a pity about the fence but for a pose like that I could not ask them to move! The fence is really quite over-powering so maybe I should crop it more?
Thanks,
Jenny |

| | | Re: Straighten or not? I would leave that one as it is Jenny, it's a nice shot. Since fences can quite conceivably run uphill, there's nothing wrong with this. I do have a pet hate for wonky horizons though, particularly images of the sea or lakes, which really should be level.

I would leave this pic as it is, the fence is a bit overpowering but helps to give a sense of perception that the deer are on a incline. Fantastic pic, what an opportunity, I'm jealous!

You could try a tighter crop but I don't feel that an image this good needs it. |

| | | Re: Straighten or not? Yeah I agree with matt (and others) on this you only really need to straighten horizons where it is clear that they are tilted such as where water is on an incline.
the fence is a bit distracting however and I wonder if you could crop the picture to a panoramic format over the deers heads but under the bottom rail ?

| | | Re: Straighten or not? It's a lovely shot Jenny. I would have cropped it, but wouldn't have straightened it. I would also clone out the fence, it's such a great capture I wouldn't want anything to get in it's way.
That's just my opinion, I'm not a very artistic person so please feel free to disagree! |

| | | Re: Straighten or not? I wouldn't straighten it either, the deer wouldn't look right if you did. You could always clone and/or use the healing brush if the fence bothers you.

| | | Re: Straighten or not? Thanks, everyone. I am very good at wonky horizons, so that's why I am a bit over sensitive.
I will try cropping a bit closer to see how it looks because the fence takes your eye off the subject. I am loath to clone out the fence because it is such a large area and I am sure that it would not look natural if I did so. However, that may be my cloning skills (or lack of)!

Jenny | Hi Jenny. I've had a quick go at cloning out the fence, it's quite easy on this image as the background is ideal for cloning. Have a go, you've nothing to lose! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
