| | | Re: new macro lens a very nice shot Nicola, well done. If I was being very critical I would say it is perhaps a touch underexposed, particularly the bee, but I realise you might blow the whites if you increase the exposure. You could try lifting the shadows slightly using 'Shadows/Highlights' in Photoshop. But the tricky bit (i.e. getting the insect in focus) you've done very well.

| | | Re: new macro lens It's a good early attempt, Nicola. The main advice I would offer is to watch your backgrounds. The out of focus highlights compete for attention with the Bee. Moving to the left would eliminate this, although it's not always practical to do this: just something to watch out for. The subject is sharp and the exposure is good.

| | | Re: new macro lens Apart from the two things mentioned above, slight under-exposure & distracting background highlights, this is a very nice image Nicola.
The Bee is nice and sharp and I have no problem with the overall composition.
What macro lens did you buy? |

| | | Re: new macro lens Hi Nicola
The best tip I would give is to remeber that when working in macro you have very limited depth of field and the best way to utilise it is to try and get the subject in parallel with the film plane( where the film would be). If they are both parallel you'll get the maximum Depth of field for your F stop.
Nice shot could do with a touch more light on the bee.
Cheers

| | | Re: new macro lens thanks, im pleased that you all arnt just saying "nice shot" as I will never learn from that, I will work on the exposure, I do tend to under rather than other expose, plus will keep in mind the background too. As soon as I find another subject I will post again and see if I have manged to improve
