| | | HDR/AEB on Canon 450D Hi all,
Am after a bit of help. I recently discovered my Canon XSi has a setting called AEB which takes three shots on three different exposures (sorry you probably know that already!). Can the camera process the images as one with the best exposures or do I need to buy/download software to do this?
I take it it's similar to HDR? Or is this the same thing?
Thanks,
Nige |

AEB = Auto Exposure Bracketing. Most DSLRs can do this and it's a good tool to use when taking shots for later HDR processing because you don't need to touch the camera between exposures and risk moving it. As far as I know, there aren't yet any cameras that will do the HDR processing internally though, so you'll need some software to do it on your computer.

Can you recommend any? Preferably free
Actually just remembered I have a copy of CS4, will that do it?

| | | Re: HDR/AEB on Canon 450D I'm a numpty with HDR I'm afraid. I've tried it with a couple of trial versions of software and with CS3 but didn't like the results I was getting. My fault I'm sure, not the software.
Yes CS4 will do it. If you google for "HDR CS4" you should find some on-line tutorials. Good luck and let us see the results.

Dave P. | Great thanks very much for that, will check it out and try to get some photos when it stops raining

| | | Re: HDR/AEB on Canon 450D Hi Nige,
I'm not sure this is something I'd want my camera doing automatically, as I would want as much control over the results as possible. As most camera screens are relatively small I prefer to do all my work on a larger monitor. But, that is my personal opinion, I'm sure there will be at least one person who disagrees.
Looking forward to seeing the results.

Like your K-5 it only works with jpegs and it combines two frames up to three stops apart.
But like Steve, I wouldn't want the camera to do it automatically even though I've not produced any decent results doing it myself yet.
