All the best. | Thanks for that.
I've downloaded Safari and tested it on that.
Everything is where it should be! LOL
I doubt I can avoid white space on some browsers and screens. I've decided to set it up for 1600 x 900 screens. And either side of that will have an impact. As will the number of tool bars people use on their chosen browser.
What I will look to do is to try and put an overall green background on all pages to cut out too much white. I've done it for the actual image pages. Long Eared Owl is the one I've "finished" for the present as my image test page.
I will have a look at templates. But I've always prefered coding my own sites so I know how to change them etc. Albeit it means I have a very basic site as my skills are limited. And for this one I hope most of the hard work has now been done!
Cheers,
Bryan

| | | Re: Views on my outline bird photo web site please I'm having to go through all my bird photos and edit them down to reasonable numbers before I can make much more progress on my web site.
But I have started an outline of how my Barn Owl Elmley page will look.
Accessed via here: Kent Yeti's Barn Owl Photos
Some images will be OK singly at 800 x 600. Others, mainly due to being taken almost at night, or due to the number needed to tell a particular part of the story, will need to be shown as a composite image: 4 images set up together at 1000 x 600.
The outline part of the Elmley web page includes a few of both sizes and styles, and I'd be grateful for views on how they look and how the two sizes " mix" together on the same page.
The images are quick edits from jpegs and may improve just a little when I do a full edit from RAW. And the text will need to change to fit in with the full story when I do the entire web page, which will include a fair bit more than that currently shown.
Cheers,
Bryan

Revisited the site, I am impressed, if you have limited coding experience then you're doing very well indeed. I've managed to reduce the white areas viewing under MAC OSX Safari 5.x. Some brilliant shots of the Owl family, shame they have to grow up and move away. .

Yes, damn shame they have to move on.
I have given the actual image pages a green background. And will look again to see how I can do that with the Index pages as you suggested. They will look much better like that. But I've already got an image as background for those pages so have to put my thinking cap on.
Cheers,
Bryan

Just a thought, there is no need to edit from RAW for web, as the quality you have set now jumps of the screen. Remember also that is people have to sit waiting for the site to load, many will stop after 30 secs. It's anal I know but I've always found it best to view the site as for other people rather than your own needs. If someone wants a print or higher res shot, then they can ask for it. Not many will.
Hope this makes sense.
