| | | I am not sure if I like this??
I took this photo yesterday while the Peregrine falcon's eyasses were being ringed. I thought I had missed getting her in flight and cannot decide if this is a good image or not? Any comments would be appreciated. |

Dave P. | Completely agree, I like to see at least some detail in the blur for birds wings.

| | | Re: I am not sure if I like this?? Have to agree with the other two posts. Just too much blur in the wings. If the head and particularly the eye had been tack sharp then you might just have got away with it |

| | | Re: I am not sure if I like this?? I think that in your in flight photo, you would have stood a better chance of being pleased with the shot if the background had been more out of focus. The bird would have stood out more then, the background would not detract from it, and the wings would lead in to the head, on which the viewer would naturally concentrate. If you have Photoshop, play about with selecting/deselecting the bird and blurring the background and you will see what I mean. The problem with doing it post-photo is the difficulty with accurately selecting the blurred wings
I've had a quick play and hope this at least demonstrates what I mean, even if my efforts aren't that impressive: |

| | | Re: I am not sure if I like this?? Thanks Jonners, I had not thought of doing anything like that with the photo. I spent half an hour trying to get the bird in flight but with the speed they move it was near impossible, let alone the chance to work on the depth of field. lol. In the end this was the only shot I managed. |

It is difficult to get peregrines in flight, but it can be done.
It takes a lot of practice, and I found a few visits to falconry centres and photographing captive birds stooping to the lure gave me a great understanding of the camera settings needed to photograph birds in the wild.
You get lots of chances to get it right at a falconry centre, you often get one go in the wild........
