| | | What fee to charge for a photo in book. Hi
Ive been asked to supply an image for zoology textbook:
Print Run: Under 40,000
Territory: North America
Rights needed: Print, elctronic, ancillary CD-ROM/DVD
They have ask to advise them of the availability and my fee. What should I charge? |

The starting point I use is the NUJ guide, but use it as a minimum if they've come asking you for your photo. It's always nice (but all too rare) to be asked 'what fee' so safe to assume they will play and pay sensibly. |

There is also a stock price calculator at Stock Photo Price Calculator, which works from survey data and gives you a high, low and average price for similar sales from its database. You need to know what size they intend to use it and where - cover shots cost more than 1/4 page inside.
Assuming it's a 1/2 page usage the calculator gives
Type of Use:: Editorial
Specific Use:: Books - Textbooks
Press Run:: 10,000 to 50,000
Size:: 1/2 Page
Low Price:: $200.00
Average Price:: $300.00
High Price:: $400.00
Survey ::831
Which, when converted back to sterling, gives figures very similar to the NUJ site.
