| | | Red Squirrels We took a short break in the Isle of Wight last week, we try and go once a year to see the red squirrels.
This time of year is good as there are less leaves on the trees so they are a bit easier to spot and they also sport their ear tufts.
We were only on the island for a few days and only managed to visit our favourite squirrel spot twice. All taken with a Canon 7D and 100-400L.
First time we went it was chucking it down with rain. All taken with a Canon 7D and 100-400L.

The next time it wasn't raining but still overcast.

1/250s @ f6.3 ISO 800

neil | These were taken in East Wight at the Alverstone Mead Nature Reserve you can find it at the end of Burnt House Lane. Alverstone Mead | Wild About Britain
They have a hide there and the squirrels are fed regularly so more often than not you will find one sharing the hide with you.
We also saw a couple in Borthwood Copse (at the bottom of this page): National Trust | Nature | Wildlife | Red squirrels

| | | Re: Red Squirrels Really nice photos. I like the second one best. The green leaves make a nice contrast.
