The lower edges of the wings on the lower gull bother me. They appear to have black shadows beneath them but the shadows don't correspond with the water behind. The wings are far above the water and the 'shadows' are in the wrong places. I wondered if there was some sort of camera processing that has produced this effect, possibly with a fast-moving subject.
I think the action in the picture is brilliant.

Hi Nicola, welcome to WAB. I cant give an opinion on the technical merits of the photo. I have hopeless photo skills. However, I can say that it is a striking pic .. full of vibrancy and light. As AZO mentioned the branches in front add to the pic. To me it would lose a lot without them. Gorgeous!!

its is certainly different

another possibility with a gull melee is to use a longer exposure to capture the movement - like this taken on skokholm in 2005

Thanks, a lot of what I take are quite different...good idea though, I like the above photo
