Well just got back from a very educational trip to Bempton cliffs in Yorkshire.
Educational because I normally have my 500mm glued to my eye and very rarely take it off. However, the lens has been in Japan for three months (don't even ask!

) forcing me to use my little 70-300vr 'toy' lens.
Now to get decent shots I really had to work hard. Watching the Gannets, learning their routines, getting in the right place at the right time, general field craft I'd somehow hadn't used in a while.
Managed to get very close to the birds, close enough that i wouldn't have come away with the shots I had using the 500! Really got me back to the basics of wildlife photography and I loved it!
Titled this thread "getting lazy" because I think thats how I'd become. Instead of using the 'craft' I've learnt over the past three or so years. I was relying on the length of the 500 instead, to get me where i needed to be.
regards.
Stu.
