| | | Subject with white edges Lousy day today, cold and overcast but I did manage a few shots of a Harrier.
Looking at them on the screen a few have a distict white line directly beneath the wings which spoils the picture.
Pictures taken against the sky are fine, its only the ones with the reeds as a background that are a problem.
Any idea what causes this?

I'm guessing from the +1 exposure bias that the bird was back-lit so I think it's the sun shining through the feather edges. I also think it looks gorgeous!

Do you shoot RAW? Grass seems fine, just the high contrast edges. Maybe the sharpening settings in camera are high?
Have you done any post on this? If so what?
Any chance of posting a larger image for a good look or post the original raw file with ALL adjustments taken off?
cheers.

Dave,
I'm not sure it could have been the sun that caused the problem, it was very dull this morning and spitting with rain. I dialed in the exposure compensation because the bird was flying above the reedbed with the sky as the background, it dipped below the top of the reeds and I just carried on clicking with the same settings.
Stu,
The shot was taken with the camera set on jpeg fine.
The contrast, saturation and sharpening in the camera were all set at zero.
I did a slight crop, made adjustments by increasing the light/contrast along with a little sharpening in Picasa.
I think the image is as large as I can load into the libary but here's one straight from the camera cropped to the same size.
Hope it's of use.

Hate to admit it, but I think Dave was right! (only joking Dave! )
Took it into PS and some of the details on the head are very bright and also the right hand wing tips. No sign of trouble around the rest of the bird even with high contrast edges so can only think it was the feather detail with the light.
Great shot by the way! Really nice.
Cheers.
