| | | Use of dodge and burn Hello
Took this pic of a pied wagtail this morning and noticed it appears to be in a slightly lighter part of the pic
I used dodge and burn in elements 5 to produce this
Probably a little OTT but first time I have tried dodge and burn
Any comments welcome

| | | Re: Use of dodge and burn Hello Paul you could`ve got the same sort of effect using the Elliptical Marquee tool then feathering it by about 150 px then tweaking the levels to give you the vinegette effect.
The dodge and Burn tools are really used to burn in detail to dark areas that are slightly over exposed and the reverse for the dodge tool, and can be used on Shadow,Mid tone and highlights .
The area`s that you have used the burn tool on you can see the detail that was washed out by over exposure and have brought some detail back in well done on this but to have missed out the areas to the top and bottoms defeats the object in my view.
If you wanted a Vinegette then use the method I described above nice pic tho of a Pied wagtail

Trying to learn how to use elements to improve the pics so looks like I choose the wrong tool this time, going to have a play later to see if I can improve the pic

I am really just playing with the pics to learn how to use elements5. I don't think their is to much wrong with the orig pic just wanting to see if it can be improved. Below is version 3 of the pic again any comments/suggestions etc welcome

| | | Re: Use of dodge and burn Thats a lot better Paul you have brought in the detail that was lost in the water and mud bank well done what you could have done to slightly improve it was go back finaly to image adjustments and slightly tweak the levels to slightly lighten the image otherwise well done
