| | | Re: Winter Hello Scott The muted tones of your pic are nice but in all honesty it is very mundane and bring in the fact that there is no focal point in the pic also although you says the the pics is as described (A Field in the Mist) at times its hard to say as your focusing is out there is no point in the image that is sharp.
Maybe someone walking through the image in a brightly coloured jacket would lift it and give you your focal point

| | | Re: Winter Well Scott, what can I say....I love this shot. For me, the slight blurriness works a treat. It has an almost water colour quality. The sky and the trees in particular. Did you use a filter at all? I agree with Bill, that a point of interest, to lead the eye into the picture, would have been good. However, the tracks in the snow, do that to some extent. Just a rabbit or someting similar would have made a lovely picture, fantastic. I guess there's never a bunny around when you need one! It's a thumbs up from me Scott

| | | Re: Winter Can't find much to fault it myself. I like the way the trees or large bushes lean into the photo on the left. I can't see that the focus is out in any way and I also like the colour and exposure on it.
It's supposed to be a shot of a misty day and to my eyes that's just what it is, rather atmospheric and it works for me. |

| | | Re: Winter On the whole. I think it is very good, Digifrog
You have caught the atmosphere well.
But for me. It does lack a focal point |

| | | Re: Winter Thank you. Bill Thanks. I agree the image lacks a true focal point. When I took this view it wasn't actually my intention to grab one. It would have been nice if it had presented itself but what I mainly tried to grab here was the tree line gradually disappearing into the mist. I could have shot a similar image of tracks leading to a lone tree in the mist, but a bit cliche and not what I wanted. For me the focal point is the area bottom right where the mist finally wins and obscures the trees. As for the focusing, I'm not quite sure what you mean. This image has been given the Orton effect to aid a dreamlike watercolour quality that I think works quite well, but all said a firm focal point with this composition would have improved it, but all I wanted to do here was catch the atmosphere. wizzo Thank you. I used a 10 stop ND filter here to give an exposure of 93 seconds. No bunnies unfortunately. ollie Thank you. The atmosphere was what I was mainly trying to grab here. Gaza Thank you.

| | | Re: Winter Digi, I think the photo could do with a bit of sharpening, but other than that I like it a lot. The lines in the snow link with those in the sky and the well covered tree stands out well.
Here is one from New Year's Day

Dave | Thanks Dave
On sharpening, the image does have the Orton effect. I'm thinking I should have left the tree in the f/g unOrtoned.

| | | Re: Winter Ooops, apologies for my ignorance Scott, I'd not heard of the Orton effect before. I can see the idea now.
