| | | Re: two for critique Harris Hawk is nice, background a tad distracting maybe and I find myself wanting to see a little more of the tail and legs.
Barn Owl is just outstanding though. I mean that's WPOTY prize wining standard, IMHO, top drawer... |

| | | Re: two for critique The owl Photo is a montage and well done it is.
The trees look too dull and lifeless to me. All in all I think not a good photo. |

Nothing that couldn't be improved with 5-10 mins post processing. There's a bit of a green colour cast and agree it needs a bit more punch, but otherwise it's superb, what's not to like? |

| | | Re: two for critique Well it didnt take you long to spot. It is a montage, both bird photos where taken at an owl and bird of prey sanctuary near settle. The fir trees picture was taken around midday, i darkened the picture and added a light source to represent the moon, i then added some lens flair. Finally i added the owl resized it as best i could and lightened the flight feathers to make it look like the light was shining through.
I didnt post the picture to deceive anyone i just wondered if you would notice.
It was an exercise i did about 3 years ago to help me learn more about photoshop and what it could do
The colours are off slightly and the perspective is slightly wrong but it does look surprisingly good printed out
many thanks for viewing and taking the time to post, im glad some of you liked it.
best regards mark............
ps The harris hawk picture is as taken except for a touch of sharpening

| | | Re: two for critique I'd've spotted it straight off! LOL I'm working with a certain person who is creating the most detailed montages and 56 shot stacks etc etc.
The important thing to remember is that the two images are taken with the same lens and very similar settings at around the same time of day.
How did you select? Extract is about the best we've found and those all important feather/fur edges can be kept - though for some reason CS4 (why fix sommat that ain't broken) didn't have it on and we had add it on ourselves. The light effect on the wings is good - but I think the whole thing is a little dark IMHO.

| | | Re: two for critique I didn't spot it was a montage until I looked at the exif data. To get an owl in flight with clear feather detail with a shutter speed of 1/6th of a second @ F20 is nothing short of miraculous!
It looks a little too dark and flat on my monitor, but it did touch up nicely. Overall as an exercise you did well. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
