In low light conditions like this the can be a bind but a tripod is a big asset as it slows you down and lets you get the composition spot on before tripping the shutter. Also it also helps to ensure if you have spirit levels on the tripod that your horizon is level and not sloping.
Otherwise like I said previously they are nice pics the colours are outstanding and you should be congratulated well done | Thanks Bill
I wanted to shoot at f/14 but it meant switching to Manual and guessing at the exposure time in Bulb (- -) mode, it was rather dark. Thanks for the tip on focusing on certain areas, something I have been doing since this session. I think I did focus on the ripples tho in the 2nd image. maybe a touch of Unsharp Mask might have helped, but this is an issue I would like to correct at point of exposure.
I can see me joining a camera club soon

The only thing I would change (and this is just a post processing thing - nothing to do with the picture itself) is to increase the feathering on the vignette effect in the second shot - the transition looks a little sudden.

Looking at your exposure details it looks like it could be down to your aperture setting in the image causeway you used a aperture of f6.3 ,I would have tried to achieve something around f16 and focused about 1/3rd of the way into the image to ensure sharpness from front to back.
In the other ahain I would have went for the same and focused on an area just of to the right of the rock again this would have ensure everything being in focus back to front.

Otherwise like I said previously they are nice pics the colours are outstanding and you should be congratulated well done | problem with using F16 would have been losing about 2-3 stops of light which probably wasnt in great supply anyway.
that said i agree with you about focussing on the hyperfocal distance rather than on infintity to maximise the plane of focus, however I dont think they are that soft, certainly nothing that a bit of USM in post prod wouldnt fix
overall they are very nice images and certainly saleable as prints (particularly the second one)

| | | Re: Sunset at Nash Point Thank you for the feedbacks
I agree that the vignette in the 2nd one is quite sharp. I have since though redone it for print purposes and feathered it twice the amount, which looks much better.
Unfortunately f/16 wasn't an option in A (Ae) mode, well it was, it just meant switching to M and guesstimating exposure time. Need more practice with that (I suppose some compensation can be made in editing in ACR)
I have always focused on infinity, don't know why. Inexperience I think. It is only in the last few weeks that I have started to focus on foreground/hyperfocal area, something I should get used to more often.
I have a couple of images where I have done this. Something for another topic.
Thanks again for the positive feedback and helpful hints.
Scott
