| | | Re: First attempt at converting raw to J peg Nice shot. I always shoot raw and use the DPP canon software to convert. It's an extra step, but does mean I have been able to rescue shots that might otherwise have been pretty much a lost cause. |

| | | Re: First attempt at converting raw to J peg If you are going to the bother of shooting RAW then I would recommend converting to 16 bit TIFF which won't lose any details while saving. Obviously you do need to convert TIFF to JPEG for internet use but you can do this with a copy and keep your original at the full uncompressed size. Although the larger TIFF files do take up a lot more space on your hard drive.
DPP is OK but is a rather basic programme compared with some of the more sophisticated conversion programmes although quite adequate for general use. |

| | | Re: First attempt at converting raw to J peg Good advice from Geoff there.
I tend to save RAW/TIFF and JPG on the 'keepers' - all as large files at high resolution.
If you enter competitions they sometimes want the RAW files and when you save as a TIFF nowt is lost as it's not a 'lossy' file. Then there's the smaller sized images to do if I want to put on the image library here.
