I think these look much better after editing. I know you say in your original post that youve cropped them but i would try cropping them even more. The colours in the new edits are much better, the warm earthy colours of the leaves against the blues work really well together.
There is a website i once viewed with lots of this type of subject on but unfortunately i cant remember the address.
Ive tried doing some similar shots to yours with an off camera flash so i know how difficult it is to get a pleasing result. I think the pros use strobe lighting or something similar.
