Little Egret, gotcha!

After two years of hunting the damn things up and down the country. I've finally got the image I've wanted.

Mind you, poor Gill (the long suffering other half and most importantly the driver!) had to be up before dawn to be in place! The light was just fantastic. Got this on the final days shoot too!

Cracking shot Stu well done ,it would have been so easy for the camera to be fooled into under exposing with the whiteness of the bird but you have handled it brilliantly .
the reflection to is spot on a cracking pic

A favourite bird of mine. Even managed to persuade Gill to have a holiday in Florida next year. Its Heron Heaven!

Mind sharing a bit of shooting info with us? Be interested to hear how you did that as it appears to be fairly low light - or was it just placed perfectly where it was in the sun, background wasn't lit at all?

No problem. Settings:-

d300 + sigma 500
1/500s at F7.1
iso400

Everything bolted rock solid on the tripod. The sun had just peeped into the sky and everything took on the warmth. Light coming over my shoulder.

Manual exposured to just keep detail in the feathers (took a few shots of the bird whilst it was walking about). Even thought the light was low the Egret seemed to reflect what was there.

for birds, in flight especially, and awkward lighting I would say practise with the manual exposure settings. That way if the bird flys against a dark bkgd or bright sky the camera meter wont be fooled into over or under exposing the image. A tip I picked up from a Marcus Conway workshop.
