| | | Mounting photographs Ive done a few now, but Im not consistent. When I tape the pic to the mount sometimes its slightly warped. I tape the short length first then the two lengths taking care its flat then finish off the other end. Is there a teqhnique to doing this to give good results everytime? Hope someone can help, thanks. |

| | | Re: Mounting photographs I did a bit of checking on this as I've had problems too, and I find the tips say to fix to photo/painting only at the top, so that it stays put, but wont buckle afterwards if the photo tries to expand due to temperature/humidity. Havent tried it out but its worth a try.

| | | Re: Mounting photographs Thanks mate, I actually just got some advice which is pretty close to yours. I did the top first then just a bit down each side and what a difference its made. Thanks for the reply though. |

| | | Re: Mounting photographs I have some photos printed some time ago, they have started to fade a little. I can tell this, as wherever they are backed by double sided tape, that is now brighter. Not done as more than poster pics, so I am not really worried. I suppose the lesson is that the things you use to stick... things to... things may make a difference. That is not really a scientific hypothesis.

| | | Re: Mounting photographs All of the info I came across stressed the use of acid free tape and adhesives. but I dont know the science behind that and if that would aid or prevent colour changes in the images.

| | | Re: Mounting photographs If its any help. I made several jigs to aid mounting - cut some boards to the same size as your pictures, 6x4, 5x7, A4 etc. Cut some additional boards to the size of the aperture of the mount. Glue these to the boards you cut to picture size making sure they are centre with a equal margin all round. When you mount a picture just sit the jig on the back of the mount, a few pencil marks placed on the back of your mount will show exactely where to place the photo. Now rune double sided tape around the aperture of the mount keeping it about two mm from the edge - you will still be able to see your pencil marks through the tape. Place your picture to the top pencil marks and lay it down onto the mount. With small mounts such as 6x4 there will be enough tape left overhanging the mount to fix the back board. On larger mounts it will be necessary to run additional double sided tape around the outer edge of the mount to secure the back board. I've used this method to mount hundred of pictures over the years and have never had one returned because of buckling -- hope this helps.

| | | Re: Mounting photographs Hi,
I tape my prints with a small piece of masking tape at the center top & bottom & center sides. I the tape the print to the mount, making sure the print is centered. I then glue the mount & print to a back board using photo mount spray glue. Never had one wrinkle of fade yet & they look great in the polythene bags i sell them in. The back boards are well worth the extra 30p or so per print.
Regards
