| | | Camera Insurance Hi all
I need some help choosing the right insurer for all my camera gear.
I've recently purchased a few new lenses and it has made me think about better insurance for all my gear.
At the minute it's on the house insurance but they have told me that they won't cover me for the £4000 worth of gear i now have.
I would be very grateful for any recommendations you can give me.
Many Thanks All

then tell them you wont be renewing your policy and find someone else. Check that they cover per item rather than for a collection (each lens and body IS a seperate item ) and usually an item over £1000 needs to be a specified item.
be careful of specialist photographic insurers , read the small print as you usually have to live in fort knox and drive an armoured car to qualify
Shop around the home insurers - moneysupermarket.com , confused.come etc then phone them.
Good luck,

| | | Re: Camera Insurance likewise - mine is covered for £5k for either me or sarah, anywhere in the world - I'm with direct line.
prior to that i had stand alone camera insurance with E&L who arent bad but do have a fair number of exclusion clauses.
one point is that neither policy covers theft from an unattended motor vehicle unless it is locked in the boot with a bulkhead.
however i have taken the option to extend my car insurance (also with direct line) to cover contents upto £3k so long as they are out of plain sight

| | | Re: Camera Insurance Likewise I've got my gear covered through my household insurance. It's insured as a photography kit, with a total cover value of £8,000. Like Pete said, I have to have it out of sight in the car with the doors locked. Apart from that there's no restriction.
I pay an extra £35 a year for my cover which I regard as good value. If your insurer really won't cover your gear then look around. Plenty of others will. |

| | | Re: Camera Insurance Lee,
I've just rejigged my contents insurance to include my kit and got it added without any issue, same clauses / restrictions as above and it didn't cost me much more overall.
I'm with Tesco for info - I did have to specify in general terms what the extra personal posessions were but was fairly straight forward.

TobyH | Thanks TobyH
I've been looking at Tesco and Direct Line as they seem to offer me the best deal.
Time to say goodbye to my current insurer i think.
