| | | D80 remote I have just been a run in my car to see if I could photograph anything of interest. I found a small marshy pond that was almost dried up, but there was a small area that had water. I seen a swallow take a drink & I thought to myself I'm going to try photograph one. I parked up a few feet away, put window down, set camera & laid it on bean bag. I have just got a remote so I put it to the test. A few practice shots were taken to make sure it worked which it did. Anyhow 45 mins I waited for a swallow to come in then I seen one coming in from my left. Ready, steady, fire! It didn't work! A perfect shot missed! I had a look to see what was up & noticed that the remote setting wasn't enabled. I hadn't touched any dials or buttons so I set it again and after a couple of mins it reverted back to manual shooting. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or if there is a way to lock this setting once on? |

| | | Re: D80 remote There is a feature in the D80 custom menu that sets how long the remote feature stays on for. The default is one minute. After that the D80 resets it self. You need to set the remote to stay on for....say, 15 mins, or whatever your preference is.
Good luck Nikon D80 Controls |

| | | Re: D80 remote Thanks for that info lads, gutted I missed the pic I'm sure it would have been a great shot. On the positive side it was only 45 mins & a swallow, imagine I'd been waiting 4 hours for a kingfisher and that happened! They'd find me hanging from a tree :-) at least it won't happen again, thanks once more. |

You have to have the full, not simple, options selected in the CSM/Setup though for this setting to appear. If you have a manual, pages 86 and 99. |

| | | Re: D80 remote I'm probably going to make myself loof daft here, but I'm stuck. I've looked at my manual and went into custom settings as it says. When I go into it on my camera I only have 11 options, reset, beep, AF area mode, centre AF area, AF assist, no memory card, image review, ISO auto, grid display, viewfinder warning & EV step. In the maual there are loads of things I can't find in this menu such as Auto Meter-off, self timer & many more including the remote on duration I'm looking for. Can anyone shed any light on why I can't find it? Thanks. |

| | | Re: D80 remote OK, I think you have the CSM/Setup to simple.
Hit MENU and go to the Setup Menu (spanner icon).
First option is CSM/Setup menu, select this and you will see the options, Simple, Full and My menu.
Select Full and OK.
Now when you go to the Custom Settings Menu (pencil icon), you should have all 32 settings available, including number 30, remote on duration.
Hope it helps |

| | | Re: D80 remote Hi Fudgey,
press menu
then (assuming it says set up menu at the top).
press left on the 4-way circular button, until you are in the symbols column at the left hand side.
press up until you are on the little camera symbol adjacent to the words "CSM/Setup menu"
press right and you will see three choices simple, full, & My menu.
highlight full and press ok.
Then move back to the left hand symbols column, and move up or down until the little pencil graphic is highlighted
press right to enter the full custom menu (numbered Reset, 01 - 32)
move down to number 30
move right, and then right again, and you will be on the screen with the remote on time settings options
select the time duration you want 1 min to 30 min and then move right to select ok.
finally move back left until the pencil graphic is highlighted again.
(I usually leave the menu at this point so that when I enter the menu again, I am already on the custom settings option).
Regards,
Mike.
