| | | Back to school Have just about found my feet after summer hols and I am keen to start a photographic competition for the kids at school. I had thought of a seasonal nature theme so I can run it throughout the year. Anyone with ideas on other themes or who to approach for sponsered prizes etc. Someone talented to judge would be nice. |

Nature in general with a seasonal variation on it seems ideal. With autumn nearly upon us there are great opportunities for capturing fungi and autumn leaves etc.
With regard to judging I would approach your local camera club, I am sure that they would be more than happy to oblige. The alternative might be to approach a well known celebrity wildlife or nature photographer (Chris Packham?) but unfortunately unless it is for a noted charity they can often command high fees and expenses, but worth a try. Failing this their is bound to be a keen enthusiast amongst the parents.
Now we come to the tricky bit, Sponsorship, unfortunately this can be like getting blood out of a stone. A start might be to write to parents, quite often a number parents run their own business and are happy to put up sponsorship or approach their employers etc. You could approach local businesses but they will usually expect something in return i.e. linked to product, press coverage etc. Another avenue would be to talk to the editor of your local paper they may well be prepared to publish the winning pictures and provide some sponsorship as well.
Some food for thought!
Good Luck

Great idea for the children. Well done. Julie

| | | Re: Back to school Many thanks I have had some great responses.
Head has said we can have a bit of cash and I will be following up leads and ideas ASAP.
Hopefully going to make it an annual comp. and generate a Christmas calender for the kids to purchase, charity fundraiser etc.
Thanks again. |

Try the local Kodac shop for sponsorship. Our local one get involved in kids photography giving out prizes for the best shot of the local carnaval.
If you can get them involved before at the start you may get a bunch of single use cameras out of them. Hell send Kodac UK and email. Its in their interest these are potential long term customers!
