| | | First outing with D300 I took my new toy for a test drive at the Teifi Marshes Reserve near Cilgerran, and sadly couldn't find very much to photograph that was close enough. I did have a good days practice getting used to the camera, and I love it so far! It feels like I've traded a Fiat in for a Ferrari compared to my old D60....everything is just much slicker, and the performance at high ISO is much better.
Anyway, here's the best of an average bunch of photos...most of the waders were too far out as the tide was receding, but a water rail helpfully appeared. The birds were generally just too far away, and the hide wasn't tripod friendly, I didn't have a beanbag so ended up handholding/resting the Bigma on the hide sill with little success at 500mm.
Luckily a friendly robin turned up as Ian and I were eating lunch. I got fairly good shots considering I had to crop them a fair bit as I only had my old 18-55mm lens on at the time.
Any tips or comments welcome! |

| | | Re: First outing with D300 Nice first shots with the new toy! Glad you like it. Wait till you get to summer and you try the 3d tracking, very cool!
Have fun and just keep shooting with it. I practised on the birds in the back garden to get used to all the dials, buttons and shooting parameters. That way it becomes second nature and you can react quicker to different situations. Digi's free, just shoot as much as poss!
Have fun though!
regards.

| | | Re: First outing with D300 Nice going for a first outing! It's a dream of a camera and I'm glad you're getting to grips with it so quickly. I stepped up from a D70 to the D300 which is a similar jump so I know just what fun you're having! And as others have said it can only get better as the weather improves and the insects come out to play.
Keep us posted!
