Advice on this photo please - what's wrong!!!

Hi there! I own this lens and it is does go slightly soft at 300mm. you will need to knock it back to 200-250 f6-f8 to get the very best from it.

at that distance it is nice and sharp!

Bob, my advice is keep trying and get it right at the time of shooting. You are not using film so take as many shots as you like. If the bird flies off find another! It's good fun

Thanks for all your responses. I've tried to take it in and I've been out again to try to improve. Some successes and some not so good. But, at least I am now starting to understand the issues/variables that we have to play with. All of your comments have helped and I am trying to incorporate them.
