Again, I think it was a Kestrel posing nearby when I was photographing a butterfly prompted the first thoughts of two bodies- but when I bought the 40D, I thought "Right, I'll put the Bigma on this and use the 400D for the macro" but I felt that the images that the 40D with both lenses on was producing were far superior than the ones from my 400D, so I'm still in that rut and take only one camera out!
The weight is also a disadvantage of two. |

The weight is also a disadvantage of two. | More or less in the same position Nick. I vowed that when I got the 40D I would only use it with the 400mm lens and keep the 400D for the macro lens only to save swapping lenses in the field.
Trouble is I love the 40D that much that I started using both lenses on it and I'm sure I will continue to do so.

Same here! I do use my 20D, but very rarely these days. I intended to use my 150mm with the 20D whilst leaving the Bigma on the 40D, then when I started using the live view mode that really helps with macro shots so that plan was binned!
At the moment my Canon mp-e65 is on the 20D, but I can't imagine it will stay there for long once the insects come back. |

| | | Re: Switchovers See, now I use my 40D with the 300mm F4 + 1.4x extender, and use a 70-200mm F4 on my 400d and I think it about evens the two out in terms of useability and IQ. I love the 40D, but I upgraded for some specific reasons (fast cont. shooting and better AF), and was never unhappy with the IQ in the 400d, so I still use that for loads of shots when I can't be bothered changing lenses, or if I'm underwater. I actually feel that there is virtually no difference in the IQ of the bodies, but the functionality of the 40D gives it an edge for the action photos I like taking. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
