another thing to check meadsman is that your camera doesnt have a voltage leak - some compacts actually draw a tiny bit of power from the batts even when putatively turned off ( The fuji S series are notorious for this) - this will flatten any battery in a couple of weeks of inactivity - best bet is to take the batteries out of the camera and store in a pouch when the gear isnt in use for a long time.
