Was thinking along the same lines during processing. Tried to knock the saturation of the background back but it just looked 'wrong'.
What did you have in mind?
regards.

Stu. | Applying some form of blur, perhaps Gaussian or lens blur? It depends on which program you've got to do your editing.
Here's a quick and dirty try, using Gaussian blur.
It's by no means perfect, You've got the original to work with so hopefully you should be able to do better.
In the end it's all down to personal preferences, it's possible to make the background completely blurred, but I think that would alter the image too far.
I also applied a bit of sharpening to the birds. |

I like the alt. Really makes the birds 'pop' out. Using CS3 so will give it a go with the lens blur.
I know the about the sharpening, I tend to do that when I know what size I'm gonna print too. (I work as a digital printer so can print true photo images digitally to 1270mm x 50mtrs! )
thanks for your help. Finding this forum has given me a knew focus on my photography!
kind regards.

The background change that was done was an improvement but IMHO the birds were oversharpened.

| | | Re: swallow being fed on the wing Thanks for viewing!
Think that was just a 'rough' to show me how the image could look with the background blur.
Had some new gear and improved alot technically since this was taken way back in Sept 08.
Going back to the spot this September, fingers crossed we can find them again and improve on the shot.
thanks again.
