Can you guide me which digital camera best for my profession?

One thing which hasn't been mentioned so far is charging for photographic work. If you are doing freebie photographs, or just covering costs, for friends and relations; then a 450D or 40D is fine as a learning camera. But if you intend charging 'full whack' say £500 per day, then customers will expect you to have the correct tools.

You would have second thoughts about a mechanic who arrived to fix your car and pulled a couple of bent rusty spanners out of his pocket.

I dont see how you can be both - because

a) how can a proffesional also be a begginer ? (surely anyone who was going pro would already be a SLR photographer)

and

b) (related to a) who is going to pay a begginer to cover their wedding - I'm getting maried in march and i know i wouldnt - you pick a wedding photographer by veiwing his past work and you want an established pro with pro level gear (unless you are getting a mate to do it because you cant afford a pro and even then you want someone who knows what they are doing)

Fashion , where nearly every shoot is for magazines is even more so - no picture editor in his right mind is going to commision a begginer whose only camera is a 450D

Hi Mark, one of the statements you make is that you already do portrait, wedding and fashion. What camera/s do you use already? If you can tell us, then this would give people on here a chance to compare what you use to the range of Canon cameras that might be suitable. Also why specifically Canon?

Hello and firstly welcome to the site,as to your problem to camera ifits for the Wedding and Portraiture side only the lens you should be looking at are a wide angle for the Wedding group shots some where around 17-85mm and for the close ups around 70-300mm .
For the camera body there has been so much conflicting news about the shutter jamming on the 40D that I would go for the 450D ,but you now also have the 50D just released and it has a larger Mp count which would give you better detail.
But its upto you in the end you would be better going into the shops and handleing them to see which suits you best and which you are happy with,hope this has been of some help,for weddings you need to be thinking of spare body as well just incase something goes wrong as you only get one chance ,best of luck

You go for it. Wedding photography need not be stressful if you know what you are doing. Its the only way I know a making 500 notes on a Saturday afternoon.
