First macro photos

I have tried to upload a picture of a toad taken using my new macro lens. If when I post this thread there is a picture I will be happy as it has taken me quite a while. Comments on the image will also be appreciated.

Nice image Vince what you have to try and do is get down lower and try and make eye contact it means getting down and dirty but well done on first attempt

Agree with Bill about getting lower also a bit more depth of field might help.

Thanks for comments Bill and Neil. I was using my tripod, but it does not go low enough. Perhaps I will have to try a beanbag on the ground next. Still learning about my camera Neil so will experiment.

Not bad at all for a first attempt, better than my first attempt anyway.

Have to agree about getting down to the subject, difficult if you are aren't very mobile like me but worth the effort.

Also agree a touch more depth of field would have been nice

Totally agree with all the comments so far, get down low and include some habitat - to gain depth of field don't be afraid to use diffused, off camera flash to provide sufficient fill illumination and prevent image blurr wich kills macro shots.Good attempt though, I haven't seen any frogs this year on my local stretch of water.

Nice shot Vince, I have yet to see a toad. I can't use a tripod I find them cumbersome I got down close and hand held the camera..
This is my first attempt at a frog.

Some of the mini tripods will go down to around one foot high. I find them handy for flowers, etc. But, it is one more thing to carry around.

Often, I set my bigger tripod legs quite close together and use it more like an extra stable monopod. But beware, as it becomes unstable and will easily fall over.

Thanks for all the hints and tips. I hopefully will try and practice more and use these tips. Kayleigh, I notice your photo was taken with a Fuji, I now have a dslr but still have and use a Fuji S5500 and it is a good camera.
