Just read on "Wildlife watching supplies" that it is illegal to photograph kingfishers in or around thier nests, without a license,  woops  ! ignorance of the law is no excuse, springs into my head! is this something i should consider for the next time? i honestly had no idea. are they endangered? please help! |

| | | Re: first kingfisher! My understanding is that you must not, under any circumstances disturb the nest or any place around it. Neither must you disturb them around the nest site. This could mean pitching yourself too close to their nest which may keep them away. If you are photographing them as they hunt for food, that should be ok. The best person to confirm all this for you and give you the real ins and outs is JeffH. He has an amazing Kingfisher diary right here on WAB and has done all the research on photographing them. He's the man that knows.
