Thanks for the kind replies.

I have tried opening the window and hopefully, as the weather gets warmer and I can leave it open more, the birds will get used to it. At the moment only the bluetits and the siskins are keen to come close when the window is open, everything else stays away.

Next step...garden hide maybe

your shots are potentially excellent, this is pretty obvious but don't stay behind that double glazing and I am sure you will have superb images!

Don't forget it is eay to peg some camo netting to your curtain rail - then you have a hide with all the comforts of home!
