Novice photography book

I am looking for a basic skills photography book. Something easy to follow as I'm not at all technical. I just want better photos. I am disappointed with a lot of the results so far. Amazon has lots on the subject bur its a mine field out there. Help

i found one years ago in whsmiths it was in cartoon form like, comic strips was really easy to follow unfortunately i haven't seen it anywhere since..... what i would suggest is buying monthly magazines like practical photography, photography monthly or amateur photography magazine(i think this one is a weekly release) they are always full of expert advice from the basics to more advanced technique.

Much depends on the camera equipment you have. I purchased David Tipling's " RSPB Guide to Digital Wildlife Photography" It's perfect for the information I needed regarding DSLR photography.
Have a good root around try WHSmith and other well known book stockists as sometimes they can have some pretty good bargains on offer.

I use a combination of the searching the internet for related topics and have practical photography, digital photo and digital camera mags every month. I subscribed to dig photo cos I had a fab lowepro rucksack free initially and there's always a good photoshop cd every month. There's usually a gift with any subscription tho.

When I first switched from film to digital I joined the photography section of the Readers Union Book Club, a good selection of books to choose from and at discounted prices.

This one sounds perfect. The two reviews said it was good for beginners..My camera is a fuji digital.

Tom Ang has produced a number of photography books which go from newcomer to advanced. I found that his Digital Photographers Handbook gave a lot of information on all aspects of digital photography.

The following internet tutorial sites might be a bit advanced for a newcomer but I learnt a lot from them:

Thanks for the replies. Thanks Geoff but the tutorials are bit expensive, as I'm about to loose my job I don't want to spend a lot at the moment. But maybe in the future when my skills and finances have picked up a bit.

the first and best photography book i bought was andy rouse's digital slr handbook i find it very helpful and not so technical that you dont understand a word he's talking about i cant remember what it cost but i did order it from amazon also i have found my local library to have a good range hope this helps. shaun.
