| | | Re: Today with 100-300mm Lens Nice variety of species there Colin. You`ve managed plenty of detail in the shots and nice lighting and focus. I would maybe have left a bit more space on the right side of the Nuthatch shot, as it looks a little tight to my eyes. Also, I always try and avoid having the subject right in the centre, as you`ve done with several of them. A good rule of thumb is to leave a little more space on the side the subject is facing, so to use the Blue Tit as an example, i would have cropped to have the bird on the right hand side of the image slightly, with more space to the left, the way it`s facing.I must say though that every new thread of images you post, there`s a marked improvement on the previous set, so very well done, I`d be happy with any of these shots

| | | Re: Today with 100-400mm Lens Cheer's Mark and Jeff, I got loads of nearly good of images the trouble with them trees is they have branches to many, and them real fine ones you don't seem to see till you upload you're shot, and have you wondering what those smudged areas running across the bird are. Also spotted in the wood today where Woodpigeons, Crows, Jackdaws, Magpies, Jay, Green Woodpecker, Sparrow Hawk, Tree creeper should have got a pic,but it caught me unaware And a Buzzard went over my head in a clearing would have made a great shot, I missed it. A gift I should at least got some sort of pic. Plenty of Blackbirds. My eye's are pretty good, perhaps the only part of me that's still A1.
Regards
Colin

| | | Re: Today with 100-400mm Lens You`re welcome Colin. If only the birds were more considerate and would position themselves in good spots eh The twig that suddenly appears in front of the bird when we view the pic on the comp happens to us all, i`ve binned loads of shots like that recently.

| | | Re: Today with 100-400mm Lens Not much wrong with your camera technique but you might find a tiny tweak with Curves might brighten the shady images; highlights and midtones only. Just a little, too much is worse than too little.
As far as branches are concerned, I try to take a quick first photo then stop for a second and have a think before continuing. Works fine for landscape, but birds have a habit of disappearing while I am thinking. |

Well done.

| | | Re: Today with 100-400mm Lens Here's your Nuthatch, with a little bit done to it.
I've uploaded it back in your name.
This is far too good to sit here in Forum images, get it uploaded in the main Gallery. |

You are definitely getting better all the time. Look forward to seeing some more and remember don't be afraid to try different settings and experiment, it's the best way to learn

| | | Re: Today with 100-400mm Lens yes, some nice images there. You're clearly getting to grip with the lens well.
The nuthatch is particularly good. I would agree with Mark about a touch more space on the right. It's also a slight shame that the face is in shade. But it's still a lovely sharp image and a nice pose.
