| | | Re: Camera problem if it's steamed up and damp, you could try sitting it on a towel near a radiator for a while (but dno't let it get too hot). If it's been bashed about in your boot it could have damaged a connection somewhere... Try the batteries first though.

| | | Re: Camera problem If you've brought a cold camera into a warm environment, condensation will always be a problem on external surfaces (something to be avoided). There is a possibility that this has occurred internally, and is maybe causing a short circuit on a component.
Let the camera dry out throughly, and avoid direct heat whilst doing so. If the camera fails to respond after this, you could have a failure (it happens). It will then be time to contact whomever you bought the camera from, since it's only seven months old, and will still be under warranty: but eliminate the condensation issue first.

| | | Re: Camera problem Thanks Rich That is what I thought was it the condensation, I have left it in a warm place and will check it later. I am missing it already.

This has been discussed here in the not too distant past, but avoiding condensation build up on bodies and lenses is an easy thing to avoid. Before I go in my house, I eject the memory card. That way, I don't need to open my camera bag to start uploading images. I leave the unopened bag to acclimatise for as long as necessary before I open it again. The same procedure can be applied to batteries, if there's the need to recharge quickly. It's just a matter of good housekeeping, and it avoids the condensation problem. Others keep lenses etc. in plastic bags: this allows condensation to form on the plastic, not the equipment. There are several ways to avoid the problem, all of them valid solutions.
I'd leave the camera overnight (minus the lens) to make sure it's dried out.
Good luck.

| | | Re: Camera problem You have probably thought of this but do you have any silica gel? If so put the bags in the oven on 100 deg C or so to dry out then cool them, and put them in a poly bag with your camera overnight, (expel as much air as possible and seal the bag. That should remove any moisture. From what you describe however, I would be surprised if moisture was your main problem - sounds like the circuitry is awry.

Although condensation is undesirable, especially with camera electronics, and lenses in particular, it is unlikely that this has had time to be the cause of your problem (unless it is repeatedly exposed to it without being allowed to dry out, or it is particularly severe). However, cameras can, and do, fail without warning. I bought a (new) D200 18 months ago that totally failed on me after only three weeks! One minute fine: the next, nothing. Of course, the retailer replaced it, but it does highlight the vagaries of modern, electronic-reliant, camera bodies.
Still, hopefully your camera will recover. Keep us posted.

If it is condensation how long will it take to dry out. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
